The International Labor Organization (ILO) defined occupational accident as an unexpected and unplanned occurrence related to work. Due to it, workers get injured, sick or die. Besides that, violence related to work also cause occupational accident.
Occupational accident may be caused not only by human. It can also be contributed from animals such as insects bites or poisonous stings, acute poisoning, traffic collision, falls and trips related to work.
Let us see current Statistic of Occupational Accident in Malaysia from January 2020 to July 2020.

Statistically, out of 4125 occupational accident cases from January 2020 to July 2020, 3,866 cases are Non-Permanent Disability cases. It refers to the cases in which the injured workers are able to start working again, after a certain period of time or as advised by the medical personnel. 146 cases are Permanent Disability cases in which injured workers are unable to resume his works normally post injury.
As a conclusion, occupational accidents at workplace can be prevented with cooperation of employers and employees by ensuring implementation of best practices in safety and health at workplace. The best safety measures should be enforced to improve management of safety and health at workplace. Let us do our part to prevent occupational accidents together.
