Department of Environmental in their recent media press release dated 10th October 2020 reported Melaka Department of Environment has raided and sealed off an illegal scheduled toxic and hazardous waste dumping site in Tanjung Kling, Melaka on the 8th October 2020 in an integrated operation with cooperation of PDRM, HAZMAT, JBPM, MBMB and BKSA. Further investigation in the sealed-off premise found 900 drums, 6 tanks of intermediate bulk containers (IBC), 7 drums of contaminated and 5 tanks of oil storage suspected of containing oil sludge.

In light to the raid, Director General of DOE, Puan Norlin Jaafar expresses serious warning to all industrial forces including waste generators transporter contractor and premises involved in handling and disposal of scheduled wastes to assure toxic and hazardous wastes are managed properly and in compliance to laws. Norlin also expressed that no compromise shall be made on environmental offender and asserted that enforcement by DOE will be intensified to ensure sustainability of environment and human well-being.
Prior to this raid, DOE Selangor previously raid and sealed-off an illegal scheduled and hazardous waste dumping site in Johan Setia, Klang, Selangor. This series of raid, enforcement by the DOE and introduction of cradle to cradle concept shows their commitment in ensuring compliance of industrial forces in adhering to the stipulated environmental laws and executed good practices in management of scheduled wastes.
