Department of Environmental Kedah inspected 26 manufacturing premises in Kuala Muda, Kedah from 19 to 21 October 2020. This is their second series of OPS Gempur conducted by the state body. In the operation, they targeted plastic factories, rubber-based, printing, electrical and electronic, metal manufacturing, wood-based and food and beverages factories.
Department Of Environmental of Sungai Petani Branch led the operation. It involved 32 enforcement personnel from Kulim and Langkawi Branch. As a result, 47 compounds amounted to RM94,000 and 26 Order Notices were issued to 26 premises. Compounds were issued due to offenses in not adhering to Environmental Quality Act 1974, EQA 1974.
To stop environmental pollution immediately, two premises with 10 equipment or machines were detained. This action was taken based on Section 38 (1), Environmental Quality Act 1974.
An investigation paper has been prepared for offenses under Section 34A, EQA 1974. It has been prepared due to offenses of performing activities which subjected to Environmental Quality (Prescribed Activities) (Environmental Impact Assessment) Order 2015 without approval.
This series of operations indicate DOE commitment in ensuring industrial compliance to EQA1974.
