What Is Hearing Conservation Training All About?
Noise, or unwanted sound, is one of the most common hazards in industrial workplaces. Exposure to high noise levels may cause hearing loss, create physical and psychological stress, reduce productivity, interfere with communication, and contribute to accidents and injuries by making it difficult to hear warning signals.
The Occupational Safety and Health Act requires employers to provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without health risk as well as adequate welfare facilities. In addition, requirements were also made under the Occupational Safety and Health (Noise Exposure) Regulations 2019 to ensure workers are protected from excessive noise in the workplace.
Therefore, employers must implement feasible engineering or administrative controls to eliminate or reduce hazardous levels of noise. Whereby controls are insufficient, employers must implement an effective Hearing Conservation Training / Program (HCP).
