INTRODUCTION
Industrial Revolution has started way back in 1760 and now we are in the midst of fourth Industrial Revolution that resulted excellency in various manufacturing industries such as coal, gas, electronic, nuclear, internet and renewable energy. While we are celebrating achievements of never-ending modern technology advancement, we are also facing challenge of noise sources be it in workplace or in everyday life. Too much exposure of noise sources at workplace may lead to occupational noise-related hearing disorders (ONHD) thus resulting tinnitus or deafness.
The danger of ONHD is that sufferers are often too late to realise they are losing their sense of hearing. In Malaysia, a study shows from 2018 to 2020, the highest confirmed occupational noise-related hearing disorders (ONRHD) states are Pulau Pinang, Johor, Selangor then Negeri Sembilan whilst the industrial sectors are manufacturing, mining and quarrying, utilities, transport storage and communication. Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a public health concern, as globally, 16% of the disabling hearing loss in adults is attributed to occupational noise and it is the foremost preventable cause of hearing loss in the workplace.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
MySHEQA is proud to present a conference which brings you the top discourse on occupational noise related hearing disorders’ situation in Malaysia and preventive measures. The conference will bring together government bodies and agencies, industrial experts, and a non-governmental organization (NGO) to understand the challenges and ways to overcome noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). The conference will overview the statistics of NIHL through advancement in technology, government’s roles in regulating noise hazard and compensation for victims of NIHL.
