About Course

Safety and Risk Management Using Bowtie Technique Training” is offered to those who involved in managing risk at workplace and involved with work related to prevention of accidents in their daily tasks. Through this training, we offer basic understanding of Bowtie Risk Management method which include on key activity in risk management process, the basic elements of bowtie and hands-on exercise will be designed based on participant’s background and nature of responsibility at workplace. Besides that, this training package offer structure understanding, developed from Bowtie Risk Management where it emphasizes clearly between risk to consequences and ways of prevention and mitigation to avoid severity of the consequences. This training package will be very useful to give deep awareness and in depth understanding of Bowtie Risk Management because it will include two main exercises with more than two hours critical thinking and brainstorming session amongst participants

Process Engineers, Operation Engineers, Maintenance and Reliability Engineers, Safety and Risk Engineers, Maintenance and Operation Managers, Supply Chain Executive, Drilling Engineers, Well Engineers, Safety Manager, and Safety Practitioner

Course Objectives

  1. Introduce and familiarize participants with Bowtie methodology including top events, hazards, threats and type of controls
  2. Discuss on the risk and impacts of previous accidents occurred in plant (chemical plant, oil and gas industries)
  3. Conduct workshop with depth understanding on how Bowtie Risk Analysis diagram can be developed to assist risk analysis and risk control study comprehensively to support HSEMS
  4. Identify the benefits and differences of Bowtie Risk Analysis compared to other risk assessment tools
  5. Facilitate on how hazards and risk of any jobs, tasks and other technical and engineering activities can be managed using BOWTIE
  6. Generate ideas between participants on how to manage risk using bowtie


  1. Participant will be able to define Risk Management concept
  2. Participant will be able to define Barrier Based Management concept
  3. Participant will be able to understand Bowtie method and its element in risk assessment
  4. Participant will be able to understand elements such as hazard, events, threats and barriers in Bowtie methods and its purpose
  5. Understanding type of barriers in Bowtie methods and in managing risk
  6. Apply learnings to develop Bowtie Risk Assessment objectives to meet stakeholder requirements and optimize the control of hazards and threats
  7. Understanding on what is SCE, and type of SCE used as Barrier in Bowtie Risk Management
  8. Reflection on how to conduct root causes of incidents using Bowtie risk method
